Advice and representation

ANMF members receive expert advice and representation for workplace issues.

Industrial representation
ANMF members receive expert industrial advice and assistance on any work-related matter including pay and classification disputes, unfair dismissals, harassment, discrimination and WorkCover claims. If you need assistance, speak with your ANMF Job Rep or call your ANMF Organiser on 9275 9333.

Professional representation
The ANMF is concerned about a wide range of issues that affect nursing, including health funding, professional standards and quality patient care. As well as providing professional advice for individual members, ANMF professional officers monitor these issues and represent nurses in a wide variety of professional and government forums. If you need advice on a professional issue, contact your ANMF Organiser on 9275 9333 or call the ANMF Information Line on 9275 9300 or 1800 133 353.

Occupational Health & Safety and WorkCover representation
The ANMF provides advice, assistance and representation for members making WorkCover claims. It also supports members in a number of Occupational Health & Safety areas including workplace inspections and occupational health and safety representative elections. The ANMF can also assist workplaces in developing strategies to reduce workplace injuries and illness. For example, the ANMF has adopted a "No Lifting Policy" and a "Zero Tolerance Policy on Violence and Aggression against nurses. The ANMF can advise workplaces on developing and implementing similar policies in their workplace. For more information, speak with your ANMF Organiser or call the ANMF OH&S Unit on 9275 9333.

Information Line
The ANMF Information Line is a members-only service open between 8.45 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. The ANMF Information Officers can help with all types of inquiries including pay rates, award entitlements and professional or practice issues. Call: 9275 9300 or 1800 133 353 (regional toll free).

Legal advice and representation
Full financial practising ANMF members have legal costs paid for any of the following matters:

  • Unfair dismissals
  • Contractual disputes
  • Underpayment of wages and entitlements
  • Nurses Board and Disciplinary hearings (including the preparation of statements)
  • Coronial Inquiries (including the preparation of statements)
  • Most criminal matters arising from your employment
  • Workplace disputes

Ryan Carlisle Thomas also offers a range of free or discounted legal services for ANMF members.
